Mitchell Herrmann studies modern and contemporary art in America and Europe, with a particular focus on issues of media, technology, and critical theory. As a Marshall Scholar, he completed an MA in Philosophy of Art at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Kingston University in London. He has worked in a curatorial and research capacity at the Yale University Art Gallery, as well as on the upcoming traveling retrospective of the Louisiana artist Tina Girouard. For 2023-4, he will be a Mellon-Marron Research Consortium Fellow at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has publications forthcoming in October and Art Journal, and his dissertation focuses on the theme of biological life in contemporary art.
