Biography

Maria Alexandra Catrickes is from Philadelphia and holds a B.A. in creative non-fiction writing and an M.A. in Italian from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently a PhD candidate in Italian, and Film and Media Studies at Yale University. Her current research traces film trends throughout a century of melodrama in Italy. In particular, she examines melodrama as a historical mode that registers moments where the desires of the future cannot accommodate the historical past. Maria has two forthcoming articles on “the interrupted party” in melodrama and on cinema and migration.
