Amrita Chakravarty
Amrita Chakravarty is a student in the joint PhD program in Film and Media Studies and Comparative Literature. Prior to Yale, she received an MPhil degree in Cinema Studies from the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her MPhil dissertation, “Expanding the Archive: Reiterations of Film(i) History in Contemporary Media, Art and Cinema”, looked at the ways in which the creative re-use of Hindi film history (in short form lip-sync videos, contemporary art projects, and recent Bollywood films) is redefining the idea of a film archive. An excerpt from this dissertation was recently published in BioScope: South Asian Screen Studies. She has also worked as a researcher for Critical Collective, a New Delhi-based platform for writing on contemporary art, photography and cinema in South Asia.
