Event description:
Joseph Coppola is a Lecturer in Film and Media Studies at UC Berkeley. Joseph received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania, with certificates in Media Policy and Legal Studies. Joseph’s research is situated at the intersections of Classical Hollywood, Critical Data Studies, and Race and Ethnic Studies: he works on histories of “dataification” throughout Hollywood history and how data collection can be considered an aesthetic paradigm; and he writes extensively on how digital communities strategically reappropriate copyrighted materials and redeploy them for social justice causes. His works have appeared in Screen, Film Quarterly, and American Quarterly, the journal of the American Studies Association.
