Il Nome de Figlio (An Italian Name)
dir. Francesca Archibugi (2015) [94 min]
What’s in a name? This is the central question of Il nome de figlio, a thoroughly Italian comedy starring Luigi Lo Cascio, Alessandro Gassman, Valeria Golino, Micaela Ramazzotti, and Rocco Papleo. Based on the French play Le prénom, Il nome de figlio analyses in hilarious detail how an initially polite dinner party with old friends can go completely and utterly wrong. And it’s all because of what should have been a happy occasion: a father-to-be’s announcement that he and his wife have chosen a name for their first-born son.
