“Cinemania: Madness and the Moving Image”

February 1, 2016

Every year the second-year graduate students of the Film & Media Studies program at Yale University organize a graduate conference on a vanguard topic in the field. This year’s conference is scheduled to take place on February 19th–20th 2016 with the theme “Cinemania: Madness and the Moving Image.” This topic was chosen to reflect both on the central role of psychoanalysis as a methodological framework in the history of cinema studies and on the prevalence of madness, anxiety, and phobia as a trope of film iconography, history and historiography. We are delighted to announce that Prof. W.J.T. Mitchell (University of Chicago) will be our keynote speaker, and Prof. Francesco Casetti (Yale University) will be providing closing remarks.
