What You Cannot Unknow documents the January 2026 protests and subsequent massacre in Iran, and the months that followed, from the specific vantage point of the Iranian diaspora: people who watched, waited, and grieved from abroad while unable to reach their families during a total communications blackout. Narrated by Yasmin Pacella, an Iranian scholar and filmmaker, the film combines firsthand footage of protests and massacres with interviews with diaspora members to convey both the scale of what happened and the experience of witnessing it from a distance. The film is intended for audiences with little to no prior knowledge of Iran or these events, and builds the context a first-time viewer needs as it goes. It contains graphic footage; a content warning plays at the start.
