Fight Like A Girl follows the story of a young Congolese woman who is forced to work in an illegal mineral mine. She escapes her captors and finds a new life for herself after joining a renowned all-women’s boxing club in the border city of Goma. Based on the truestory of an all-women’s boxing club and their ex-child-soldier coach in Eastern Congo, Fight Like A Girl was shot on location in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.
Following the film screening, production team members: Clarisse Umutoniwase, Schadrack Karekezi, and Anton Laines will participate in a discussion moderated by Sociology and African Studies Department faculty, Professor J Siguru Wahutu. This screening is presented by Through the Eyes of She Initiative in partnership with the Whitney Humanities Center, Yale Schwarzman Center, Yale African Students Association, Yale Office of International Students and Scholars, Yale Department of French, and the Yale Women’s Center.
