The film tells the story of Li Huiquan, a young man who is released from prison and struggles to find his place amid rapid changes in late 1980s China. He tries to stay on the right path and navigate the new, market-economy reality without resorting to crime again. Yet constant disappointments make him question if a right path truly exists for him.

This screening is part of the “Dropouts and Dreamers: Films of the Socialist 1980s” Series, which explores the experiences of youth in the state socialist world during the transformative period of the 1980s.
