Nanni Moretti directs this intimate personal drama starring Margherita Buy as film auteur (also named Margherita) who must come to terms with the impending death of her mother, while shooting her latest project. In the process, Margherita is forced to confront fraught relationships with family members, including her brother (Moretti), a troublesome ex-boyfriend, and a feckless Italian-American actor (John Tuturro).
